As WordPress Agency we love WordPress as a content management system for many reasons. The openness of the system, which makes it easy for us to try out new design ideas or develop extensions (so-called plugins), for example. Or the tremendous power, which allows us to set up even very large web projects or applications.

The lively developer community and the incredibly good documentation make developing with WordPress a pleasure. But also for you as an end user a website based on WordPress offers a lot of advantages.

Five good reasons for WordPress

1. WordPress makes independent

WordPress is Open Source Software. This means that the source code of all components is freely available and you can install the software on any web server. Only PHP and MySQL or MariaDB must be present on the system. Thus, you can easily move your once finished website to a new provider and do not have to commit to a provider forever. WordPress is regularly updated and thus remains permanently protected from hacker attacks, no matter where you have it hosted - without having to pay license fees.

2. page maintenance becomes a breeze

You maintain a blog on your site or want to update other content regularly? As a powerful content management system, WordPress provides all the necessary functions you need to supply your website with fresh content, even on your own. For employees, you can easily create additional user accounts to contribute content together.

The editor "Gutenberg" included in the WordPress backend is as easy to use as your word processor in Office & Co. Formatting, inserting images and videos and linking other pages are no problem.

With the optional moderation mode, you have the opportunity to review your colleagues' edits before final publication on the web.

3. WordPress facilitates analysis and evaluation

With the right plugins, WordPress creates detailed usage statistics for your site. These are clearly displayed and help to understand which products and subpages interest your visitors.

This gives you the opportunity to feature these pages in particular in the future, to use them for cross-promotion measures or to add further, similar content. Store systems based on WordPress, for example implemented with WooCommerce, also benefit from such analysis data.

4. WordPress is search engine optimized

Google and Co. also love the clear and clean structure of WordPress-based websites. Whether blog, webshop or product presentation: WordPress pages load quickly, can be optimized for mobile use without any problems and have semantic meta information that makes it easier for search engine parsers to sort them.

Thus, they bring everything to play at least technically at the top of the search results. With additional extensions, WordPress also helps to optimize the content.

5. widespread use - CMS with largest market share worldwide

Last but not least, the widespread use of WordPress is a real argument for its use. Around a third of all websites are now delivered using the CMS. Accordingly, there is a lot of literature, seminars and supplementary software on the market.

In addition, you can always find developers who can maintain your site for you, develop new plugins and take care of any bugs. Also, that WordPress will be further developed, at least for the foreseeable future, receive fast security patches and new features, is secured for now.

With less common CMS solutions, it can sometimes take years to plug security holes and add important features.

Is WordPress always the best choice?

WordPress has 17 years under its belt and has evolved from a small blogging software into a full-blown CMS that is used worldwide. Although the development team has repeatedly cut off old braids and rethought the framework during this time, attention has been paid to long-term backward compatibility.

For most websites, WordPress is ideal for this very reason. Because all conceivable usage scenarios are covered and enabled. An exception are very small pages, web business card or single product presentation. Where only a few, largely static pages are to be displayed, WordPress is sometimes just too much of a good thing.

More minimalistic systems, such as Flat File, Pico, Grav or our in-house SimpleCE can then be the better choice to build a fast loading and simple website.

However, for 95% of all corporate websites and blogs, WordPress is the optimal solution and not for nothing the most used content management system in the world.
